Setting Up a Custom Link Shortener Domain

A custom link shortener domain allows you to replace the default rfr.bz shortener with your own branded domain for all social media posts and campaign referral links. We recommend using go.yourdomain.com, but you can customize it as needed.

Socialtility will automatically obtain an SSL certificate for your shortener, ensuring secure HTTPS links without any extra cost. If you already have an SSL certificate, you can use it instead.

Important Notes Before You Begin

  • Ensure that your account level allows for a custom link shortener domain. If not, a one-time fee may be required to unlock this feature.
  • Once unlocked, you can change your custom shortener domain anytime at no additional cost.
  • If using Cloudflare, disable proxying for the CNAME record.

Step 1: Configure DNS Settings

  1. Go to your domain provider's website (e.g., GoDaddy) and navigate to Manage DNS.
  2. Add a new DNS record:
    • Select CNAME as the record type.
    • Enter rfr.bz in the Points to field.
    • Set the shortest TTL (Time to Live)—for example, GoDaddy allows 600 seconds.
  3. If using a subdomain (e.g., go.yourdomain.com):
    • Enter go in the Name field.
  4. If using a full domain (e.g., yourdomain.com):
    • Enter www in the Name field.
    • Do NOT replace an existing 'www' record if your domain is currently used for a website.
  5. Save your changes and wait for the DNS update to propagate.

  1. Navigate to Account Preferences in your Socialtility account.
  2. Scroll down to Link Shortening and expand the section.
  3. Click Activate.
  4. Enter your custom domain using one of the two acceptable formats:
    • https://www.example.com (DO NOT use https://example.com)
    • https://sub.example.com (DO NOT use https://www.sub.example.com)
  5. Choose SSL Certificate Option:
    • Select "Automatically generate an SSL certificate for me (https)" if you don't already have one.
    • If you have an existing SSL certificate, select "I already have a custom SSL certificate for this domain", then enter the required details.
  6. Wait for SSL Activation:
    • An SSL certificate will be issued within 5 minutes.
    • Unlike custom campaign domains, no manual activation is required by support.

  • Send a test social media post with a shortened link.
  • Click the shortened link in your post.
  • Ensure the link redirects correctly to the intended page.

If your link shortener is not working after following these steps, please contact our support team.
