How to Post to TikTok

This article explains the steps to post to TikTok directly and via the TikTok inbox. It also outlines key limitations of the platform.

[Update 14 July 2023]: TikTok Direct Posting is Live!

Connecting Your TikTok Account to Our Tool

  1. New Connection Check:
    • Verify if you're starting a new TikTok connection.
  2. Add Your Account:
    • Navigate to Account Preferences or Workspace Preferences and add your TikTok account. The tool will automatically retrieve the correct permissions.
  3. Reconnect if Needed:
    • If your TikTok account was previously connected, remove it first and then add it back to ensure proper permission syncing.
  4. Impact on Scheduled Posts:
    • Reconnecting your TikTok account will not affect any posts already scheduled in your Queue.

How to Post to TikTok Directly

  1. Select Social Profiles:
    • Choose all the social profiles for your post, ensuring you select your TikTok profile.
    • Note: Only one TikTok profile can be selected per post; attempting to add another will trigger a warning.
  2. Compose Your Message:
    • Enter your post message, which will automatically include hashtags.
  3. Upload a Video:
    • Click the "Upload a Video" button and select your video file.
  4. Preview the Video:
    • A preview will appear in the TikTok window. Although the preview is square, the final video retains its original aspect ratio.
  5. Select the Category:
    • Choose the appropriate category for your post.
  6. Avoid Watermarks:
    • Do not add watermarks—TikTok does not allow them and may ban your account.
  7. Configure Initial Settings:
    • Follow the prompts in the TikTok preview window. The settings will be saved for future posts.
  8. Review Your Caption:
    • Check the caption in the preview, ensuring it doesn't exceed 2,200 characters.
  9. Publish Your Post:
    • Choose to Publish Now, Add to Queue, or Schedule your post.

Editing Your TikTok Post in the TikTok App

If you want to edit your TikTok post to add additional elements, follow these steps:

  1. Hold as Draft:
    • Enable "Hold as a draft in TikTok" in the top-right corner of the TikTok preview window.
  2. Email Notification:
    • Select "Email me when it's time to post."
  3. Edit in TikTok Inbox:
    • The post will be held in your TikTok inbox, allowing you to edit it quickly.
    • You can add a sound or a sticker (the only method to add a link on TikTok).

By following these instructions, you'll be able to post directly to TikTok using Socialtility and make further edits via the TikTok app if needed.
